Labyrinth Laser Inc. » About

Hi Everyone! My Name is Nikki.

I’m a certified Laser Technician and the proud owner of Labyrinth Laser. I received my certifications from Aesthetic Laser Academy and International Laser Academy.

While working at Wolf & Crown Tattoo, I realized that most tattoo clients had at least one tattoo they wanted removed from their bodies, and I wanted to be the person to help them do that. As someone who has personally undergone tattoo removal, I understand the potential fears and frustrations that clients may experience. That understanding drives me to provide my clients with as much information and compassion as possible so they feel knowledgeable and at ease throughout the tattoo removal process.

Labyrinth Laser is a safe, inclusive, judgment-free space. There will only be a discussion about the tattoo or its circumstances if you initiate it. In that case, I’m here to listen and be supportive throughout the process. I use a Zimmer (a cyro cold air device) and ice packs, which enhance your comfort by minimizing discomfort and aiding in healing. We move at your pace during the treatment by taking as many breaks as you need.

In addition to zapping off unwanted tattoos, I enjoy a quiet life on an acreage just outside of Red Deer. I have a 12-year-old son, a partner I’ve been married to for 14 years, four dogs, seven goats, three donkeys, and six chickens. I like spending time with friends and family, watching movies, reading, playing board games/cards, and collecting physical media, horror memorabilia, 80s toys, vintage technology, and vinyl.

Understanding the Laser Tattoo Removal Process

It’s vital that I provide you with as much information as possible so you enter this process feeling informed and confident. The first thing to remember when removing a tattoo is that tattoo ink is designed to be permanent. We will do everything we can, but there is no guarantee that a tattoo will disappear 100%.

How Tattoo Removal Works

  • We use an EVO Q-Plus laser, which is a q-switch nano-second photoacoustic laser.
  • The laser finds ink particles and shatters or fractures them into smaller particles.
  • Around two weeks after your procedure, these particles are absorbed by macrophage cells and delivered to the lymphatic system, where your body will begin clearing them out through sweat, urination, and excretion.
  • We want to fade and remove the ink gradually but not change the tone or texture of your regular skin; this process takes time.

Number of Sessions

  • Every tattoo and person is different, making it difficult to give a definite number of treatments.
  • The average is 8-12 for “complete” removal. The average number is 4-8 to lighten for a cover-up.
  • Although the end result is worth it, tattoo removal is a commitment, and rushing the process can damage your body and skin.
  • Treatments are every 8-12 weeks (or longer).

Factors That Influence Amount of Sessions Required

  • The amount of ink in the tattoo.
  • Type of ink: Certain inks respond faster and break apart more easily.
  • Professional or Amateur: Professional tattoos are deeper in the dermal layer of the skin and contain more layers and density of ink. Amateur tattoos are more superficial in the skin and typically not as shaded or defined in density. They will usually respond more quickly to treatment.
  • The color of the ink.
  • Placement on the body: Because there is more lymph activity in the trunk of the body, these tattoos usually respond quicker than those on the extremities.
  • Lifestyle: Clearing the ink is a function of an individual’s lymphatic system, so the healthier the lifestyle, the better the chance of response. Drinking lots of water, eating healthy, being active, and eliminating, or at the very least limiting, nicotine, excessive alcohol, and unnecessary pharmaceutical or recreational drugs will improve the efficacy of the treatment(s).
